The Jezebel Spirit

The Jezebel Spirit is not confined to only operating in a female, it has no sex… man or woman… it’s all the same. What the Christians call the Jezebel spirit, the world calls Malignant Narcissism.
I’m going to attempt to compare the diagnostic criteria for Narcissistic personality disorder to Jezebels actions according to the Bible. Under the diagnosis criteria, I’ll show in the word where we see this manifested in Jezebels behaviors in italics.

DSM gives this outline for diagnosis of NPD (narcissistic personality disorder)

A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and with lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood, as indicated by at least five of the following:

Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements, expects to be recognized as superior without actually completing the achievements)
1Kings 21:7  And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel?…..It was true that Ahab was King, but there were things that even as King he was not entitled to, like Naboth’s vineyard…God had laws governing how inheritance were to be handled. Ahab knew this and was laying on his bed sad because he couldn’t take it…but Jezebel felt entitled to take it because God was not her concern, Naboth was not her concern…in her mind Ahab (and her) were entitled because Ahab was King.

Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, brilliance, beauty, or perfect love.
This is conveyed by her actions in totality, but especially 1 Kings 19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. (She felt she could defy God and kill his Prophet Elijah, she thought she was more powerful.)

Believes that they are “special” and can only be understood by or should only associate with other special people (or institutions).

Requires excessive admiration.

Has a sense of entitlement, such as an unreasonable expectation of favorable treatment or compliance with his or her expectations).

Is exploitative and takes advantage of others to achieve their own ends.
Naboth refused to sell to Ahab because he was keeping the law of God concerning inheritance, Naboth feared God. Jezebel used the law Naboth followed to murder him by sending 2 liars to tell the wise council (men who upheld the Law of God) that Naboth blasphemed God and the King, a crime punishable by death. All so she could get the vineyard for Ahab.

Lacks empathy and is unwilling to identify with the needs of others.
Her actions toward Naboth showed she didn’t care about his life, his sons’ inheritance, or how this would affect Naboth’s family.

Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of them.

Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors and attitudes

The other points that I didn’t put instances of are evident in the Word of God that goes into how she conducted herself and acted towards others. Like when she heard Jehu was coming she put on make-up and was intent of running her narc game on Jehu.
2 King 9:30  And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.
Jehu told the 3 eunuchs to toss her down, and they did.
This situation shows that she had an expectation that she could win favor by doing what she does. In reading about her, you can see these narcissistic patterns.
Modern psychiatric help mostly tells the victim of narcissistic abuse to break contact if you can and block all ways the narcissist has into your life whenever possible. Sometimes, where there are children shared between the victim and narcissist, so no contact isn’t possible, and you can bet, the narcissist will use the children to keep contact with the victim.

Proverbs 6: 16-2816 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

This is where I’m going to pick up again–how God wants us to deal with narcissistic /Jezebel people.
