Isaiah 42

Isaiah 42:1-25 https://www.biblegateway.com/audio/bubb/nkjv/Isa.42

1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

Jesus never tried to raise up a mob and start riots in the street.

A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

Jesus the Messiah is the Servant spoken of in 1-3 and part of verse 6, these verse were quoted of Jesus in Matthew 12:17-2117 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

We are all waiting for the time when Jesus will come back and establish his Kingdom on the Earth. His judgment will come and his Law established.

Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

These are the words of God, the one and only God, creator of the heavens and the earth and everything on the earth and mankind who God gave the ability to reproduce to inhabit the earth.

I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

God made Jesus the Lord of the New Covenant that will be established on the earth.

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Jesus gives us clearness of vision into the things of God… he also healed the blind. Then, when he died, he released those who were imprisoned (Matthew 12:40, Ephesians 4: 8-10 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) Hebrews 2: 14-15 14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
In addition there is another mention of prisoners being released from prison in Isaiah 49:9. These are in reference to Jesus freeing people from sheol when Christ Jesus resurrected from the dead.

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

God is the Lord of all, he is the creator of everything and will not share his glory with any one else nor will he share his praise with any graven images (Idols).

Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

Because in the past God has shared things that were going to happen with people before they happened, we should trust God who continues to share new things that are going to happen.

10 Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.

11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.

1Let them give glory unto the Lord, and declare his praise in the islands.

13 The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.

This is when the Lord Jesus comes back in the second coming with vengeance for those who are in rebellion against him and will destroy them.

14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.

15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

Matthew 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

1And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.

God will deliver Israel when they repent for their idolatry, rebellion and sin.

18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

The truth about Jesus will be shown to Israel, and they will finally hear and see the truth of who Jesus is, that he is the Messiah, the promised one of Israel.

19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the Lord’s servant?

The servant of the Lord here is Israel. They would not believe the reports of Jesus, or the messenger of God. (There was a blinder placed on Israel because they rejected Jesus, and this opened the door to the Gentiles to be saved. When the fullness of the Gentiles is reached, then God will lift the blinders off of Israel, and they will see the truth, repent and get saved.)

20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.

21 The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

The Law of God pleases him for the sake of righteousness…. it is good and honorable.

22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.

This is what happens when a person rebels, sin puts them in holes hiding from the enemy, robbed of their wealth, spoiled and ungrateful, imprisoned and left as prey with no one to deliver them. (Until they repent and God restores them)

23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?

24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
