Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

The wording here “hunger and thirst” defines the drive of the person. A hungry and thirsty person is preoccupied with finding something to eat and drink because they know they need those things to keep themselves alive. Hunger and thirst also bring discomfort until the person finds the food and water they’re hungry and thirsty for. The commitment to finding food and water isn’t just a hobby for them, it’s a life necessity, and they pursue it earnestly.

I’ve tried repeatedly to write about this in my own words…. it’s like trying to define a taste…or a color. What keeps coming to mind is the Maranatha cry. This is the outcry of the heart that desires for Jesus to come and right the wrongs in the world and to take over so we can live in righteousness. There is a growing hatred for lawlessness, not sinners…. but sin. I sit back and see the evil that’s playing out in the world and desire God. I desire the time when we are all changed to our incorruptible body, Jesus is on his throne ruling the earth…. people openly love each other….there is no need to worry….no violence, and sin is no longer a part of the world.

For now, I will set my mind to learn about Jesus and to become more like him. This means I have to repent of my sins, keep my heart right with God… take up my cross daily and die to my own sinful nature and instead do what the word of God tells me to do….and one fine day, the Lord will restore righteousness to the world.
